Membership in the Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA) provides Nolte with valuable resources such as access to the latest industry news and developments, as well as opportunities to network with other precision metalworking industry experts. The 2012 Management Update Conference that was held February 24 – 26 in San Diego, California gave Bob and Doug Coster a chance to gain management specific insights, strategies, and information.

The philosophy behind the Management Update Conference is to provide participants with the latest developments on issues pertaining to owners and managers of small and mid-size metalworking companies. Selected by the Management Update Committee, the conference topics consist of relevant industry issues, and the speakers are comprised of company owners and top managers. An important part of the conference is the opportunity for networking and sharing of information with PMPA members.

Among the topics covered at the 2012 conference were strategies for weathering the unpredictable economy, communication, management development, and marketing opportunities.

Of particular interest was a presentation by former U.S. Navy SEAL, David Rutherford.  David provided insight into the SEAL brotherhood and their methods for commitment, training, communication, leadership, self confidence, mentoring, and team development.  David presented proven processes perfected by the SEAL Teams that can be implemented by the precision manufacturing industry and building cross functional teams across screw machines, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and CNC Swiss equipment.

Kraig Cramer presented on the Top 10 Tools for Financing Business.  Kraig provided training and tools useful in monitoring and ensuring the financial strength of the business.  As the precision machining industry is a capital intensive industry, Mr. Cramer’s tools for enhancing strategic planning, forecasting, and cash flows is important for financially stable companies to prepare to serve the changing demands of the industry’s customers for machined components.
